Vanessa Podda voices Lilith’s impossible monologue. Lilith, antithesis of Eve, is a mythological and archetypal character crossing several cults and world religions. Dating back as early as the 3rd millennium in Mesopotamia, her iconography condenses a type of femininity considered negative: also called the ‘Black Moon’, her spirit of rebellion, uninhibited sexuality and freedom of action make Lilith a demonic and hybrid figure whose attributes are mixed with those of an animal. Described with raptor-like claws and bat-like wings, red hair and fiery eyes, Lilith has inspired artists in modern times who have reworked her features and amplified her allure.

LILITH: «I am Lilith. When they hear my name, everyone thinks of a monster that brings misfortune. A hag to be exorcised with holy water and a crucifix.
Horrible and naughty things are said about me. They say I would make men who sleep alone, ejaculate, and from that lost seed demons ready to reproduce evil would be born. According to primitive legends, that would be my way of giving birth. Only someone, in their goodness, describes me as the embodiment of feminine beauty and all creation.
The Pre-Raphaelites saw me that way, as a beautiful Lilì. I must admit that sometimes I would like to look just like the Lilì of that little song, that “na na na na, na, na na na”. Instead, I am always the harpy: the winged monster with long red hair, bloodshot eyes, always ready to squabble and brutally mate with anyone.
I do not remember ever having children: with me, children, none can come at all.
I escaped from the earthly paradise right before the expulsion of the progenitors. Since then, all nature has become mortal. I, who escaped early, have remained as I was: immortal and ubiquitous, whether you like it or not.
Of course, I am a woman outside the box: having a permanent residence does not matter to me.
I was born from a puff of the earth when it had just thickened on itself.
When Adam saw me, he was stunned. I left him to his fate as a progenitor. Because this is my nature, not that of Lilì the little grimacing. To me, the tree of knowledge is the body in all its parts, especially the most intimate. There, one can find the source of inebriation, the one that makes the blood swirl and smell like ambrosia. Metamorphosis is the true knowledgment.
I am, Lilith, psychedelic and psychotropic. But I have ve never hurt anyone. Lilì, pff.»
