A growing number of women are choosing not to have children. Lunàdigas gives them a voice
The idea of researching women without children came to the authors out of the blue, like something urgent put off for too long. Right from the start, Lunàdigas proved to be a difficult but necessary challenge: the time had come to speak, after years of silence, and the response, sincere and vibrant, finally came from many, many women.
Web documentary
In the beginning was the web documentary, published online in 2015 after years of work. An urban forest of testimonies from lunadigas women of varying degrees of prominence, and of all ages and origins – such as the astrophysicist Margherita Hack and the Partisan Lidia Menapace – alongside Carlo A. Borghi's Monologhi Impossibili [Impossible monologues], which give voice to the women in mythology and history who never had children.
Documentary film
The stories told spring from the women's private experiences, evolving into a collective, universal tale. In 2016, the full-feature film is released: the authors, lunàdigas themselves, take the challenge. The film is screened in cinemas in Italy and keeps being invited to many Italian and international film festivals, collecting many acknowledgments, including awards at the Festival Chouftouhonna in Tunis, the Porn Film Festival in Berlin, Queer Lisbona, the 2 11 1717 International Film Festival in Wahroonga, India and the WUIFF in West Bengal, India.
